Is there something that you want in life but aren’t getting?
The job.
The partner.
The house.
The body.
The money.
The vacation.
It’s safe to say we have all experienced not getting what we want.
And it feels like shit.
We usually blame our boss, the dating scene, our busy schedule, our genetics, etc – something outside of us.
Well, that’s about to change. Because guess what?
The only reason you’re not getting what you want is because of YOU – the stories you’re telling yourself about yourself.
It shouldn’t be news that our minds are crazy powerful things.
Whether you fully subscribe to the concept of manifesting (more on this in a later post), or not, there’s no denying that we all create stories in our minds that affect the way our lives are.
My story
I used to be incredibly shy as a child – actually until I was 30.
Like I was so shy that my kindergarten teacher thought I wasn’t ready to move on to 1st grade. Not because I was behind scholastically, but because I was behind socially & didn’t really talk.
And though I did eventually start talking more as I grew up, I still subscribed to the belief that I was shy. That shyness became my story, my identity.
And that story spread like a disease to all areas of my life.
I struggled to make friends, I struggled to get the jobs I wanted – I struggled with countless things because of the story I kept telling myself: I am shy.
Then I hit a wall with my story at age 30.
I left behind my old identity and moved to Venice Beach by myself – a city I’d never really visited & a place where I didn’t know anyone.
I couldn’t hide behind the story that I was shy anymore. I needed to make friends to survive in this city.
And as soon as I stopped telling myself I was shy, I realized I actually wasn’t shy at all.
Just like that, my story changed and as a result, my entire life changed.
So what story/stories are you telling yourself that are holding you back?
We all have them.
Try this...
Here’s a little exercise to help you unwind & rewrite these stories:
Think about something you want in life but aren’t getting. Nothing is too big or too small.
Write down all the bullshit reasons why you aren’t getting it. a.k.a. blame it on other people/things/circumstances.
Now burn or throw away those reasons because they aren’t actually the reason.
Remind yourself the reason is YOU & the stories you’re telling yourself about why you aren’t getting what you want.
Figure out what stories you want to tell yourself instead. Out with the old, in with the new. Rewrite your stories so they are setting you up to get exactly what you want. Because guess what? YOU CAN. As long as your stories are aligned, you can literally get whatever you want.

All True Vows
All the true vows
are secret vows
the ones we speak out loud
are the ones we break.
There is only one life
you can call your own
and a thousand others
you can call by any name you want.
Hold to the truth you make
every day with your own body,
don’t turn your face away.
Hold to your own truth
at the center of the image
you were born with.
Those who do not understand
their destiny will never understand
the friends they have made
nor the work they have chosen
nor the one life that waits
beyond all the others.
By the lake in the wood
in the shadows
you can
whisper that truth
to the quiet reflection
you see in the water.
Whatever you hear from
the water, remember,
it wants you to carry
the sound of its truth on your lips.
Remember,
in this place
no one can hear you
and out of the silence
you can make a promise
it will kill you to break,
that way you’ll find
what is real and what is not.
I know what I am saying.
Time almost forsook me
and I looked again.
Seeing my reflection
I broke a promise
and spoke
for the first time
after all these years
in my own voice,
before it was too late
to turn my face again.
